Bow String Advice

      How to order the correct string length

01.   Measure your existing string. Outside of loop to outside of loop

or

02.   Use AMO length (if provided) AMO - 3” Longbow - 4” Recurve bow

or

03.    Measure the ‘belly’ of an unstrung bow ‘tip to tip’ and around the curves. This gives you the AMO length.

 

String Types

B55 type string. Smooth and quiet shooting. Trad bows, fibre glass bows. Can stretch slightly.

Fastflight. Less stretch but faster. Can be nosier. Bows with reinforced limb tips.

Flemish string, longbows and traditional bows

        How Many Strands

  • 10 strand B50 Dacron for bows up to 30lbs

  • 12 strands B50 Dacron for bows up to 40lbs

  • 14 strands B50 Dacron for bows of heavier weight

Handy Spine Charts

Remember though that some weights written on bows are inaccurate and that bows can change over time. Also each archer shoots slightly differently and your draw length changes the bow weight.

I always recommend testing the bows actual weight and using a ‘tester set’ just to be sure.
